Atmosphere

Researches of properties of gases have begun with atmosphere research.

Our planet is surrounded by a gas cover. Without it the life would be impossible, as almost all kinds of a live matter depend on oxygen - one of the main components of air. Atmosphere protects us from harmful sunlight, promotes carrying over of water steam from one area in another. Each of these functions in itself represents a subject, worthy studying, but it is necessary to stop especially at opening which have made considerable impact on physics development.

To the Present studying of atmosphere, as well as many other areas of physics, Galilej has begun. He has assumed, though many denied it that atmosphere - the matter kind, and has come to a conclusion that, being material, it should have weight. Galilej agreed with Aristotle considering, giving in a manner inherent in it quantitative expression to the thoughts that the atmosphere density makes approximately 1/10 density of water. However Galilej has set to itself a problem to measure atmosphere density, instead of simply to guess it.

Experiment Galilee has given enough data to define relative density of air. As a result of experience of Galilej has come to a conclusion that air density makes 1/400 density of water that is true in the order of size: correct figure 1/700. If air has weight, it should put pressure.
