Antiquity. A zoo

you are: Antiquity

Under Aristotle's offer the first-ever zoo has been created. Alexander the Great has charged to Aristotle the organisation and management of this enormous enterprise, having given in the help a little to THOUSAND persons: hunters, fowlers, fishermen, shepherds, keepers of ponds, hen houses and woods. The data collected by these people on an animal and flora have helped Aristotle to write about fifty books.

Wishing to share the opening and supervision with other people, Aristotle has based the school which has received popularity as ' Likej '. The school was located on territory of a temple of Apollo Likej-skogo, whence there was its name. In the morning Aristotle's pupils were muzhi mature and formed. Young men from noble families in the afternoon came to study.

Walking on the green avenues stretched along athletic fields, pupils ' Likeja ' conducted conversations with the teacher which told it about the supervision and conclusions, said that distinguishes live beings from inanimate objects. Aristotle considered that in the world there are any ' the loony ', that is souls. Plants ostensibly possess souls of the lowest order. They incorporate nutrients, breed. Animals have one more property - they can move.

The Person, moreover, is able to think and supervise the actions. Aristotle asserted that between all these live beings there should be any communications. He tried even to systematise live beings, making a life scale of ranks. Especial interest was caused in it by distinctions between the live and inanimate nature, and also relationship between plants and animals. It studied possibilities of self-origin of the lowest organisms, its attention was involved also with transitive forms of organisms as we would tell now, - in its mind the idea about genetic dependence arose.

Aristotle conducted The conversations with pupils within twelve years, collecting simultaneously a large quantity of materials and bringing the conclusions in books. Thus it managed to create the magnificent ordered meeting of data about modern to it knowledge. The most part of its works is not has reached us, but already that has escaped, testifies to the scientific approach of the philosopher to all natural phenomena.
